Suwannee River State Park  Book Now See other Spotlights

Where the scenic Withlacoochee joins the historic Suwannee.

The Setting

Suwannee River State Park overlooks the scenic Withlacoochee River as it joins the historic Suwannee River. A rustic overlook provides a panoramic view of the rivers and surrounding wooded uplands.

With more than 1,800 acres, nature is the primary focus of this park, which also features sinks, streams, springs and limestone outcroppings. Abundant plant and animal species call the park home, including gopher tortoise, fox, deer, song birds, wildflowers and diverse native forests. The protected Gulf Sturgeon and other fishes and reptiles are abundant in the river.

The park is part of the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail that stretches 170-miles from White Springs to the Gulf of Mexico. Along the famed spring-cooled river, visitors can enjoy paddling, hiking, biking and horseback riding. Take an opportunity to explore the Suwannee’s wilderness, its parks, its towns and its historic sites. Sleep under the stars, at a river camp, in a cabin, at a local motel or bed and breakfast.

The Facility

The newly renovated campground has 30 campsites for tent and RV camping. Each site has a picnic table, grill, clothesline, 50 amp service, water and sewer hook-up. Accessible showers are centrally located. Firewood and ice are available on-site.

Five cabins, which sleep 6, include a dishwasher, fireplace, and large screened porch.

Two youth camps with restrooms and showers are available for large groups.

Park Features

The two rivers are the highlight of Suwannee River State Park. A boat ramp is available for various watercrafts and canoes can be rented at the park. Special services are also available from local outfitters to meet specific needs.

Visitors can enjoy fishing the river for their favorite catch. (A Florida freshwater fishing license may be required.)

Interpretive labels explain various park plants and animals for those who take the self-guided tour. The day-use picnic area has tables, grills, two picnic shelters and a shady playground is located nearby.
