Honoring one of America’s composers along the banks of the Suwannee River.

The Setting

The park honors Stephen Foster, one of America’s most influential composers and celebrates Florida’s cultural traditions.

The Museum and Carillon Tower house exhibits and dioramas depicting scenes from some of Foster’s most popular songs. The carillon’s electronic roller plays Foster tunes daily.

The park serves as the gateway to the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail that stretches 170-miles from White Springs to the Gulf of Mexico. Along the famed spring-cooled river, visitors can enjoy paddling, hiking, biking and horseback riding. Take an opportunity to explore the Suwannee’s wilderness, its parks, its towns and its historic sites. Sleep under the stars, at a river camp, in a cabin, at a local motel or bed and breakfast.

The Facility

The newly renovated campground offers 45 oak-shaded sites with electricity and water. Each site features a picnic table and grill. A state-of-the-art restroom offers hot showers.

Five cabins sit near the bank of the historic Suwannee River. Each cabin features two bedrooms, one bath, kitchen, dining room and living room. Swinging on the screen porch is a perfect way to relax at the end of a busy day.

Park Features

Visit the Craft Square where demonstrating artists share their talents and offer classes and workshops. A children’s playground is located near the Gift Shop where crafts, toys, books, jewelry and Foster memorabilia are sold. Picnic tables are located throughout the park.

Special events explore farming history, quilting, folk traditions, and the life and music of Stephen Foster. Weekend retreats offer instruction in building and playing banjos and dulcimers. The first Florida Folk Festival was held in 1953 and the park continues to host the Florida Folk Festival each Memorial Day weekend.

Visitors can explore the outdoors, beginning with Carter Camp’s ten miles of trails for off-road bicycling, hiking and horseback riding. The Florida National Scenic Trail follows the river through the park. A canoe launch and gazebo are available for canoeing or kayaking. Fresh water fishing (fishing license required) entices anglers. Facilities may be rented for meetings and social gatherings.
