Pinnacles Campground – Pinnacles National Monument – CA  Book Now See other Spotlights

The Pinnacles Campground is located within Pinnacles National Monument and is home to diverse plants, wildlife, and towering geologic formations that reach tall into the skies.

The Setting

The campground is set at the base of the mountain that is home to the unique peaks and caves that are an adventure to explore. Your campsite will be surrounded by old growth oak trees. Within the campground are a few different waterways, but most of the year are just down to a trickle. These water ways still draw much wildlife to the campground which can be very exciting. And if unique wildlife is your thing, one of the best places to view a California condor is directly from camp.

If you come in the spring be ready to see an abundance of wild flowers native to the area. If rock climbing is your thing this is the place, as we are home to over 800 routes. The Bear Gulch Cave trail, one of the most popular in the park, will entice you to explore the dark passages of one of the talus caves that has slowly formed over 3 millions of years. This trail will lead you up to a reservoir built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corp.

Other Information

Established in 1908 to preserve the incongruent and beautiful rock formations for which Pinnacles is named, the monument originally protected only 2,060 acres.  It now encompasses over 26,000 acres in the southern portion of the chaparral covered Gabilan Mountains, one of a series of parallel northwest-trending ridges and valleys that make up the Central Coast Range.  Pinnacles is a refuge for species representative of the central California coast not only because of the many ecological niches here, but also because of its long-term protected status.
