History and geology abound at naturally managed park.
The Setting
The Campground - open from April 17-September 30 - is located within the 2,300 acres that comprise Macedonia Brook State Park situated within the glaciated hills of Northwestern Connecticut. Far from the noise of New England’s highway corridors this wonderfully wooded campground, complete with a meandering brook, offers a rustic, quiet setting at its best. Macedonia Brook is well stocked with brook, brown and rainbow trout offering great fishing all summer long.
The Facility
Macedonia Brook State Park Campground features 51 camping sites with access to pit toilets and water pumps. The park also offers, via reservation, a large open air picnic pavilion that can hold 75 people. Please note that neither pets nor alcohol is not permitted within the campground.
Park Features
The park’s exciting terrain has resulted from the slow wearing down of its hard rock formation base. With over seven miles of hiking trails, and its close proximity to the Appalachian Trail, Macedonia Brook State Park is a hiker’s haven including scenic view of the Taconic and Catskill Mountains in New York. The land was once the domain of the Scatacook Indians who shared the land with the settlers of Kent. After the Revolutionary War many of the parcels were sold for commercial activity that included a substantial iron producing industry. As competition with the Pennsylvania mines grew stronger the furnace was forced to close. Many years later, the National Park Service established a Conservation Corps Camp at the park.
Just a few miles down the road visitors can take in the spectacular 250-foot cascading waterfall at Kent Falls State Park.
