Regular winds and sunny weather provide excellent conditions for sailing and sailboarding, as well as water-skiing and jet-skiing. Warmer temperatures also make an ideal setting for hikers and bikers to soak up a little sun while enjoying 56 miles of trail throughout the park.

The Arkansas River flows into Lake Pueblo which means that both the lake and sections of the river below the dam are hot spots for anglers hoping to catch walleye, bass and catfish. Visitors can also experience wildlife on land from the watchable wildlife kiosk at Anticline Pond, located in the Rock Canyon day-use area. Mule deer, coyote, cottontail rabbit, red and gray fox, and beaver frequent the park along with several species of reptile including bull snakes, rattlesnakes, sagebrush lizards and box turtles. The park is also a popular place for bird-watching because of its located in the Central Flyway.
