An oasis on the plains with shoreline campgrounds and sandy beaches.
The Setting
Situated just 20 miles from Fort Morgan, Colo., Jackson Lake State Park is known as one of Colorado’s finest destinations for outdoor recreation. The park features a 2,400 acre warm-water reservoir and sandy beaches, making it the perfect place to enjoy all different types of water sports. This is the place to be for fun in the sun and unlimited access to recreational opportunities.
The reservoir is undoubtedly the most popular attraction at Jackson Lake State Park. Anglers can take advantage of the reservoir’s fishing conditions and catch rainbow trout, walleye, wiper, yellow perch, crappie, drum, carp and channel catfish. The area is also well-known for its bird watching opportunities because the park is located in the ‘central fly zone’ for migratory birds. During the summer, visitors can expect to see American white pelicans and Swainson’s hawks, while bald eagles nest in the park during the winter.
A unique feature at Jackson Lake State Park is the 1.5 mile OHV track, located on the south side of the park near the Cottonwood parking lot. The track, which is designed for the novice rider, is open year round and offers OHV enthusiasts room to ride. If you prefer a quiet walk, Jackson Lake State Park also has a wetlands nature trail for foot and bike traffic only.
