A great place to catch the wind or bask in the sun.
The Setting
Cypremort Point State Park (Cypremort Point) is located on a half-mile stretch of a man-made beach that provides a delightful area for relaxing, picnicking and enjoying the water. It also affords an opportunity for fishing, crabbing, water skiing, windsurfing and, of course, sailing.
A boat launch just outside the park's entrance is only a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and fishermen can venture out to fish in the Gulf or in Vermilion Bay. Catches of flounder and redfish are not uncommon in the area. For those interested in fishing from the shore, a 100-foot fishing pier is situated on the Bay. Overnight visitors also have access to adjacent boat docks and a fishing cleaning station.
In addition to excellent sailing and swimming facilities, the 185-acre park also holds a special attraction for nature enthusiasts. Located in the heart of a Louisiana marsh, the site contains an abundance of wildlife.
The Facility
Overnight accommodations include six cabins located on the lake, at Cabin Point, and another 5 cabins near the old Flag Island. Nine campsites opened in early April 2009. Hodges Gardens State Park is the perfect place to stay, while enjoying nearby historic sites of Fort Jesup, Rebel, Los Adaes and Fort St. Jean Baptiste.
