The Setting
Chemin-A-Haut State Park (Bastrop) offers 14 vacation cabins, 26 RV campsites, 20 tent sites and a group camp for overnight guests, along with picnic areas for day-use visitors. Eight miles of horse trails and a designated camping area appeal to equestrian groups, and features an area to tie up the horses, showers and restrooms.
Big Slough Lake, located near the edge of the park, offers an opportunity to fish from the shore. Several varieties of freshwater species can be found there. The calm waters of the lake, and Bayou Bartholomew, make the park a great place for the more relaxing forms of water sports…such as a gentle boat ride. Trails along the high banks of the bayou also provide a great way for visitors to enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the area.
This 503-acre site takes its name from the French word meaning "high road," which was the route used by Native Americans many years ago in their seasonal migrations. Chemin-A-Haut State Park is situated on a high bluff overlooking Bayou Bartholomew and is one of north Louisiana’s hidden jewels.

Boat rentals: $15/day; life jackets and paddles are included
